As reported by JM-Madeira, a group of four young men is reportedly terrorizing Asian immigrants working in Madeira. Multiple assaults have been reported, but the police have not yet identified the suspects.
Video of Attack Makes Headlines on Social Media
Two separate videos released online shows two separate attacks on immigrants from Nepal and Bangladesh, occurring in public during the day. A Bangladeshi victim confirmed the attacks are real and linked to this group. One attack involved a knife assault on June 9, which has been formally reported to the police, who are currently investigating.
The episodes occurred during the day, in public places, in the sight of several people.
Xenophobic Attacks Against Asians on Social Media
Social Media for a while has become an environment of hatred against Asians in Madeira and people from abroad, often working in low-paid jobs. Sadly, these recent violent and disturbing attacks are a tragic and inevitable consequence of that hateful environment.
