Do Not Miss Out: Funchal's International Women's Day

Funchal celebrates Women's Day on March 8th with a diverse program including exhibitions, performances, and workshops, empowering women.

Funchal is marking Women's Day on March 8th with a multidisciplinary and diverse program. March 8th begins with Mulheres à Descoberta do Risco at 10 am on Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, next to the entrance of the Funchal Community Center.

At 14:30 the Conselho Municipal para a Igualdade de Género e Não Discriminação will hold a ceremony of Distinction for the city's women at the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho.

An hour later and in collaboration with UMAR from Lisbon, the Cultural and Research Center of Funchal opens the exhibition 50 years of April: Evolution of Women and Human Rights at 15:30.

Also, the Book Fair is featuring a spoken word event and the show Linha at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre. “This multidisciplinary show explores the mental and physical boundaries of feminine energy, both in men and women. A story without defined characters that repeats itself over time, told over and over again.” Tickets are 7 euros and it starts at 7pm.

At 20:00, the Book Fair Stage presents My story is another and it starts now by Mariana Camacho and Madalena Caldeira, a concert by the Associação New Classic.

On March 9th, a Pink Rescue workshop by Sílvia Freitas and Jéssica Sousa takes place at 21:00 in Praça do Município, organized by the Regional Civil Protection Service.

International Women's Day activities extend to various municipal structures, emphasizing the recognition and appreciation of women in the community.
