Madeira Needs to Insist on More & Better Public Transport
Madeira’s streets are full of cars, making travel slow and stressful. Last year, the island added many new buses to its public transit, and more people started using public transport. The government made buses free for seniors and people up to 23, but since then, not much has changed.
On the contrary, many people are complaining that the system is not keeping up with the 25% increase in passengers. Buses are often overcrowded, and many people who rely on them to get to work sometimes can’t board or get stuck in traffic.

To make public transport work for everyone, Madeira urgently needs a comprehensive mobile application that shows connections and traffic updates in real time. It needs to make public transport more convenient and accessible. It needs more buses in order to make sure that people who rely on public transit can do so and don’t have to wait in vain because buses are full.
