A Madeira MP wants the national government to explain what the TAP sale means for people on the islands. Lufthansa is set to hold 49.9% of TAP.
Emanuel Câmara, of PS-Madeira, sits in the Assembleia da República, the national parliament. He is sending a request for clarification to Miguel Pinto Luz, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing.
Câmara wants to know how the interests of people in Madeira and Porto Santo were protected in the talks that led to the privatisation. Air transport has a determining role in island mobility, he says, because the region is a group of islands.
"This is a matter the Government cannot avoid. The Portuguese who live on the islands need answers."

The Wider Complaint
For Câmara, the sale fits a pattern. He says the AD government has mistreated and disrespected people in Madeira and Porto Santo over territorial continuity. He points to continuing problems with the Territorial Continuity Mechanism, the former Social Mobility Subsidy, which he says still harms residents of the region.
The report does not say when the minister has to answer, and it carries no reply from the government.
