The Green Steps project, created by Teatro Metaphora – Associação de Amigos das Artes, has received the international “Connecting Cultures” prize under the CT Award 2025. The award is given by Corps Touristique e.V. and focuses on projects that connect tourism, sustainability, and cultural dialogue. The jury described Green Steps as a strong example of responsible tourism that turns travel into a space for learning and cultural exchange.
Award Ceremony Held on 21 January in Stuttgart, Germany
The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, 21 January, in Stuttgart, during one of Europe’s leading tourism sector events. The president of the association, José António Barros Rodrigues, was unable to attend. The prize was therefore accepted by the Portuguese Consul, acting on behalf of the project. Organizers said this public representation showed both institutional support and international recognition for work developed in Madeira.
The Metaphora Theatre, founded in 2009, is a non-profit organization whose objective is to carry out cultural and educational activities for the benefit of community development.
Among the activities we carry out are artistic activities, international youth mobility projects such as training courses and exchanges, volunteering, and environmental projects.
Environmental Education Project Active Since 2015 Involves Local and International Communities
Green Steps is a long-term environmental education and cultural action project that has been active since 2015. It works with local residents, young people, and international volunteers. Its activities include large-scale art installations made from urban waste, public space actions, eco-marathons, restoration of natural areas, and educational programs. Through these efforts, the project encourages a more conscious relationship between people, the territory, and visitors, using art as a shared language.
