General Strike on December 11 Will Impact Buses
Horários do Funchal said service may be interrupted on Thursday, December 11, because of a nationwide general strike by workers across Portugal. The action was called by the country’s two main labor federations, UGT and CGTP, in protest against planned changes to labor laws.
The company said that normal routes could face delays or suspensions during the strike. While it did not give exact numbers on how many lines may be affected, it urged passengers to prepare for possible limits on service throughout the day.
Horários do Funchal Asks Passengers to Check WhatsApp and Facebook for Updates
In a notice to customers, Horários do Funchal said it regretted any problems the strike might cause and added it would try to reduce disruption as much as possible. The company asked passengers for understanding and patience during the industrial action.
Travelers are advised to check the company’s official WhatsApp channel and Facebook page for real-time updates on which routes may be limited. The operator said these platforms will carry the latest notices on any changes to schedules or services on the strike day.
The strike is part of a wider national protest, and similar warnings have been issued by other public services across the country. In Funchal, the impact is expected to be felt most by daily commuters and tourists who rely on buses to reach work, schools, hospitals, and hotels.
