Racist Incident at Nico’s Burger Escalates into Chaos
A man turned a quiet night into a scene of panic at Nico’s Burger, located in Marina Shopping in Funchal, shortly after midnight on Wednesday. According to information reported by JM-Madeira, the man entered the restaurant accompanied by a woman and quickly became aggressive toward a staff member.
Without warning, the man began insulting the employee, using xenophobic and racist language. The employee, who is of African origin, was verbally and physically threatened. After refusing to serve the man, the situation escalated further, causing alarm among other patrons.
Police Use Pepper Spray and Taser
Faced with growing disorder, the PSP (Public Security Police) was called to the scene. Officers were forced to use pepper spray and a taser to subdue the man. He resisted police intervention before being immobilized and taken into custody.
Both the employee and the man involved were taken to a hospital for medical care. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. Authorities have not released the names of those involved. The incident happened at about 12:15 in the morning hours.
