Thief Arrested After Breaking Into Madeira Shopping

A man was arrested after breaking into MadeiraShopping shortly after closing time early Thursday, stealing money and goods from four kiosks and cafés, authorities confirmed.

A robbery occurred at Madeira Shopping yesterday morning, October 9, according to information confirmed by the shopping centre’s administration and local reports.

One store employee told Jornal da Madeira that “four thefts happened at kiosks and cafés.” The same source claimed the suspect had stolen from the shopping centre before and continued to act “even in broad daylight.” She said the situation “is worrying the shop owners” and called for stronger security measures. The employee added that the stolen goods included both money and a large amount of material.

Administration Confirms Incident at 00:15 and Immediate Police Intervention

MadeiraShopping management confirmed that the incident took place around 00:15h, shortly after the mall closed. The security teams acted immediately and, with the intervention of the PSP, the individual was arrested on site, according to the administration in a written statement to JM.

The same individual who stole last week keeps stealing more and more, sometimes even in broad daylight.

In its statement, the management of MadeiraShopping reiterated its “commitment to the safety of all shopkeepers, staff, and visitors.” It said the centre is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. No injuries were reported, and the detained suspect remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
