Warning Issued for Strong Winds & High Waves Tomorrow

Authorities in Madeira have issued warnings for strong winds and high waves tomorrow, urging residents and visitors to stay safe and avoid walking near the sea.

Winds of 31–61 km/h Along Madeira Coast

The Capitania do Porto do Funchal has issued updated warnings for strong winds expected across Madeira until 18:00 tomorrow, November 13. Winds will begin from the west-southwest at 31–39 km/h and increase to 51–61 km/h by the end of the day. From mid-morning, they are expected to shift to the west at 31–50 km/h. Authorities urge people to keep a close watch on conditions.

The Port Authority of Funchal updates warnings for bad weather at sea.

North Coast Waves May Reach 4.5 Meters, South Coast Up to 4 Meters

Sea conditions will be rough along Madeira’s coasts. On the north coast, waves could rise from 2.5–3.5 meters to 3.5–4.5 meters. The south coast is expected to see waves of 2–3 meters, increasing to 3–4 meters, with the eastern part slightly lower at 1.5–2.5 meters. Visibility will vary between moderate and poor at times.

Public Warned to Stay Away from Coastlines and Secure Boats

Authorities are advising both maritime operators and the public to take extra care. Residents and visitors should reinforce moorings, watch anchored vessels closely, and avoid walking near the sea, especially on piers, cliffs, or beaches. Recreational fishing near cliffs or in areas hit by waves is strongly discouraged, as the sea can quickly reach zones that appear safe in calm conditions.
