Political Detective Work Goes Wrong After Name Mix-Up
In a surprising twist this week, a Chega deputy brought forward strong suspicions against the secretary of the Islamic Centre of Madeira - only to discover - as was reported - that he had confused him with a completely different person who just happened to share a similar name.
Islamic Centre Explains: Our Lokman Is Not That Lokman
The Islamic Centre of Madeira issued a statement saying that their secretary, Mohammad Lokman Hussain Bhuiyan, has a clean record in both Portugal and Bangladesh.
On top of that, Diário de NotÃcias Madeira published an image that shows Chega’s André Ventura shaking hands and smiling friendly with the real Lokman in Funchal.
We would like, however, to clarify that the individual Mr. Gomes referred to in his statements is a completely different person, and that Mohammad Lokman Hussain Bhuiyan is a member of our association, with no connection to the alleged activities, and has a clean record with the police in Portugal and Bangladesh.
Video Adds to the Chaos, Using Photos of a Completely Different Man
To make things even more awkward, a video shared on Chega Madeira’s page reportedly showed images of a man who merely had a similar name and looked completely different.
But in the case of right wing parties, such a mixup might just be intended. Right or wrong, its not like only few care, but they make their point in defaming and planting the sees of hatred. For them, its a win win as long as you flood the zone with sh** - that always works.
Note to everyone out there: double check your ChatGPT and Google investigations before speaking as a deputy of parliament.
