Police Found €208,000 Hidden Behind Benfica Painting and in Safe
Investigators later discovered most of the stolen money inside the man’s house. According to reports, police recovered about €208,000 hidden in several places, including in a basement safe concealed behind a painting of Benfica Lisbon. The unusual hiding place was confirmed by police sources at the time of the search.
The fact that the safe opened late and required a key from a second employee prolonged the robbery. The amount that was inside the deposit would have surprised the thief, who expected to take an amount of up to 50,000 euros.
