Diamantino said the road was wet and that he had been using a dark visor, but he did not place blame on a single cause. He told reporters that accepting what happened is part of his recovery.

Social Media Videos Help Him Cope, With One Surpassing One Million Views

Rather than dwell on the accident, Diamantino has posted regular videos documenting his recovery and daily challenges. One of those posts has already surpassed one million views. He said the attention helps him feel less alone.

For me, it’s a relief to have someone to talk to. It’s fantastic to make a video and then receive a message from a person I don’t know at all, telling me I’m an inspiration

His videos show practical struggles - for example, getting onto chairs to use the bathroom - and his goal of returning to work. He has said he hopes to regain as much independence as possible and to keep sharing his experience online.

Madeira Records 11 Road Deaths in 2025, Six Involving Two-Wheeled Vehicles

Local authorities say the island has logged 11 road fatalities so far this year, compared with 12 for the whole of 2024. Of the 11 deaths, six involved vehicles with two wheels. Officials and club leaders pointed to a rise in the use of motorcycles and scooters, some poor vehicle maintenance and rider inexperience as factors that contribute to accidents.

The president of the Madeira Bikers’ Club described road features — such as some drain covers and road markings — as poorly placed or slippery when wet, and said adjustments could reduce risks. The Public Security Police (PSP) announced plans for a regional awareness campaign aimed at raising public concern and involving survivors who can share testimony to help reduce these numbers.

Fundraiser Brings More Than 800 Donations in Three Weeks for Home and Transport

In the weeks since the crash, Diamantino set up a fundraiser that organizers say has received more than 1400 donations in about three weeks. He said the money will go to immediate needs such as installing an elevator at home, and later to an adapted car and travel between Madeira and Porto so he can see his partner.

Diamantino described the new costs he faces in stark terms: “If before I spent 10, now I’ll probably spend 40.” The Madeira Bikers’ Club (Club Motards Madeira) said it will donate profits from its anniversary event on the 3rd and 4th to support him. He has thanked supporters and asked that donations help him regain independence rather than to keep him inactive.
