A Celebration of Madeira’s Iconic Fish
The Festa Gastronómica do Peixe Espada Preto (Espada Festival) kicks off today, August 7, in Câmara de Lobos. This four-day event celebrates the black scabbardfish, a deep-sea species central to Madeira’s fishing and culinary traditions. Held in the bay, the festival features food, music, and tributes to the local fishing community.

Local Flavors on Every Plate
Nearly 20 food stalls and restaurants are offering dishes based on peixe-espada preto. Visitors can try the fish grilled, fried, breaded, or in creative versions prepared during live cooking shows.
Live Music Every Night
Each evening includes live performances. José Malhoa opens tonight, followed by Vasco Freitas, Roni de Melo, and 4litro through August 10. Regional groups also take the stage, adding to the festive atmosphere. The festival runs through Sunday, August 10.
