Strong Growth in Housing Licenses for Families
In the first half of 2025, Madeira recorded a significant increase in new housing for families. According to data from the Regional Directorate of Statistics (DREM), 277 buildings were licensed, a slight drop of 1.4% compared with the same period in 2024. Despite this decline, 213 of those projects - about 76.9% - resulted in 549 housing units for family use, representing a 67.9% increase from the previous year.
More Buildings Completed Across the Region
The number of completed buildings also grew. A total of 191 buildings were finished in the first six months of the year, an increase of 4.9% compared with the same period in 2024. Of these, 132 were intended for family housing, making up 69.1% of the total.
Substantial Increase in Finished Homes
The data further show a strong rise in completed homes. In new constructions, 511 units were finished, up 34.8% compared with the same period last year. This confirms a steady upward trend in the availability of housing across the region.
