Accident Involved An 83-Year-Old Driver
A fatal traffic accident late yesterday evening in Ribeira Brava on the road to Tabua left one man dead. The victim, an 83-year-old man, was reportedly driving a pickup truck when the vehicle left the road and fell from a steep slope.
The circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road are unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether other factors, such as weather or road conditions, played a role.
Vehicle Fell Near Volta da Amiga Onto Estrada do Corpo Santo
According to information obtained by the Jornal da Madeira, the accident happened in an area known as Volta da Amiga. The vehicle is believed to have left the roadway there before falling to a lower road, Estrada do Corpo Santo, several meters below.
Firefighters from Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol were present at the scene. However, they did not provide further details.
Family Called To Scene As Witnesses Attended Local Festivities
Family members of the victim were called to the site to formally identify the body. The fall was witnessed by residents who were nearby taking part in Cantar dos Reis, a traditional local celebration held in early January. The road remained under emergency control as responders worked at the location.
