Horários do Funchal Begins Awareness Campaign From That Runs Until January 30, 2026

Horários do Funchal (HF) announced a campaign yesterday at stopping vehicles from parking illegally at bus stops. The initiative will run until January 30, 2026, focusing on cars that block bus operations and create risks for passengers.

Local Authorities Collaborate to Intensify Fines for Traffic Violations

HF is working with the Public Security Police (PSP), the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure (SREI), the Institute of Mobility and Transport, and municipal councils of Funchal and Câmara de Lobos. Authorities will help enforce the rules and share campaign messages through social media, websites, and newsletters.

The bus stop is not a parking space!

By stopping in these areas, you block bus access and harm those who rely on public transport.

Follow the rules. Respect mobility.

Irregular Parking Forces Buses to Stop in Traffic, Increasing Accident Risks

HF warns that blocked bus stops create a “domino effect” of safety problems. Drivers must stop in traffic lanes, forcing passengers, including children, the elderly, and people with reduced mobility, to board directly from the road. Large vehicles can block visibility, making it difficult for both drivers and passengers to see each other.

Illegal Parking Delays Service and Can Lead to Fines of 30€ to 150€

Stopping in a bus stop or within 5 meters in front or 25 meters behind the designated area is prohibited under Article 49 of the Portuguese Road Code. Violations can result in fines ranging from 30€ to 150€. HF emphasizes that keeping stops clear is essential for passenger safety and maintaining the reliability of the public transport network.
