Electronic Component Failure Stopped Cable Car Operations
The Funchal Cable Car has been out of service since today morning, after an electronic component failure caused the system to stop. The malfunction occurred shortly after the cable cars began operating normally, according to Ricardo Pinto Correia, president of the cable car’s board.
“Now we are replacing this component and performing a full system reset to return to normal operation,” he said. If repairs go as planned, the service is expected to resume by tomorrow.
Minor Cabin Delays Managed Quickly by Auxiliary Motor System
A few passengers were briefly trapped inside the cabins during the stoppage. Ricardo Pinto Correia confirmed that the delay lasted only a few minutes and that the auxiliary motor was quickly activated to remove people safely from the line.
The safety of passengers is our main concern, and we will only reopen when everything is 100% secure

Planned Repairs Aim to Resume Service by Tomorrow
The maintenance team is currently replacing the defective electronic component and resetting the system. Authorities say that, if no further issues arise, the Teleférico do Funchal will be fully operational by tomorrow allowing tourists and residents to resume travel along the route.
