Whale Incident Filmed From A Boat This week, a ๐ต๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ was seen jumping out of the water very close to the coast of Calheta. The incident was filmed from a boat of the tourist vessel Magic Dolphin .
The humpback whale jumped several times out of the water and delighted bystanders. While many whale-watching providers offer tours, it is anything but self-evident to see a whale and even less likely to see them jump close to the coast (about 1600 meters).

These markings have been instrumental for scientists in recognizing and monitoring individual whales since the 1970s.
๐ก Some humpback whale populations undertake the longest known migration of any animal, covering a distance of up to 8,000 kilometers each year. They journey from warm tropical oceans, where they breed, to colder waters that offer more food.
๐ก Not all humpback whales follow this migratory pattern. For instance, those found in the Arabian Sea remain in the waters surrounding Yemen, Iran, Pakistan or India throughout the year.
๐ก The songs of humpback whales, performed exclusively by males, are intricate and can continue uninterrupted for several hours.
