Hotel Bookings Surge as Madeira Enters Its Peak Winter Tourism Window
According to tourism data collected in mid-November, hotel occupancy during the main Christmas period (24–26 December) is expected to reach 75.9%, slightly higher than last year. For 30 and 31 December alone, current projections indicate an occupancy rate of 88.3%, also above 2024 levels. These figures will be updated on 9 December, when demand is expected to increase further.
Christmas Lights and Markets Set the Season in Motion from December 1
The celebrations officially begins on 1 December with the illumination of Funchal’s city centre and the opening of the traditional Christmas Market on Avenida Arriaga. The market will feature 25 stalls this year and has been redesigned to follow stricter environmental standards. Officials confirmed that environmental responsibility is being applied to all events, with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact through an ongoing certification process.

Citywide Entertainment Programme Aims to Spread Visitors Beyond the Old Town

Organisers say the programme aims to distribute visitor flows across the city and reduce pressure on the most crowded areas.
Eight-Minute Fireworks Show Scripted as Madeira’s International Brand Moment
New Year’s Eve remains the highlight of the festive season. Live music will take place from late afternoon until after 23:30 , followed by the island’s world-famous fireworks display. This year’s theme, “Love Madeira”, highlights emotional connection, identity and international promotion.
