Proposal Tied to October Elections
Dinarte Nunes, candidate of the PSD/CDS coalition, announced that he will introduce free transport for residents if elected mayor on October 12. The service would be available for trips within the municipality and would begin immediately after the election.
Service to Start With Reserved Vehicle
According to Nunes, the first stage of the project will use a van already reserved for the municipality. He explained that the goal is to make daily life easier for residents who often struggle with mobility inside the area.
We want people in Porto Moniz to feel supported and to know that the local council can respond to their daily needs
Addressing Needs of Elderly and Workers
The candidate highlighted that many elderly residents have no private transport to reach medical appointments or pharmacies. He also pointed out that workers often face difficulties traveling to their jobs. The free transport plan, he stated, is designed to address those problems and was included in the coalition’s election manifesto after meetings with residents.
This is also a way to ease the financial burden of our families, while ensuring that no one is left behind for lack of transport or resources.
Reducing Household Costs and Improving Mobility
Nunes argued that the measure could also help families reduce their transport expenses while increasing mobility within the municipality.
