Praia Vigário Water Leakage Causes Slips After Vandalism

Beachgoers at Praia Vigário have raised safety concerns after several people slipped due to water leaking onto walkways. Authorities say the leaks were caused by acts of vandalism and are asking the public to help prevent further damage.

Complaints Over Safety Risks at Praia Vigário Continue

Some users of Praia Vigário, in Câmara de Lobos, have been complaining about the shower area, particularly about water running directly onto the sunbathing area and the stairs leading to the beach, making the ground very slippery.

One of those who raised the issue was Amilcar Figueira, who wrote on his Facebook page that

It’s been about a year since the requalification of Vigário Beach but the problem in the shower area remains unsolved (…) at least three people fell because of this! Besides the risk of falls, part of the sunbathing area becomes unusable, preventing users from fully enjoying the space, especially at weekends, when it is much busier. It is urgent that the responsible authority take action. The safety and comfort of those who use the beach cannot be harmed by a problem that, in my view, is easy to solve.

Municipality Takes Action After Online Complaints

Contacted by Diário de Notícias da Madeira, Câmara de Lobos City Hall confirmed that it had learned about the situation through social media and had sent a team to inspect the affected area, focusing on the sunbathing deck and the stairs. According to them, vandalism was behind the problem.

It was found that the cause of the problem was related to an act of vandalism that damaged a piece essential to the drainage of water in the shower area. The part in question has already been ordered and its replacement should take place by the end of this week.
