Tourist Arrivals Increase 9.7% Between January and September 2025
Madeira recorded 1.9 million visitors during the first nine months of 2025, according to data reported by RTP Madeira. This represents a 9.7% increase compared with the same period in 2024. The growth reflects Madeiras steady popularity among European visitors, with Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Poland identified as the leading source markets.
Demand Remained Strong Into Autumn
Local businesses report that demand has remained strong into autumn. Hotel occupancy continues to rise as the island welcomes more late-season travelers. Visitors cite Madeira’s mild climate, mountain walks, and ocean views as the main attractions.
Hotels Account for 66% of Overnight Stays, Local Lodging at 32%
In September, overnight stays rose by around 8% compared with the same month last year. Hotels remain the most popular option, hosting nearly 66% of all stays, followed by local accommodation, which represents almost 32%, and rural tourism, which accounts for about 2%.
Revenue per Room Rises (RevPAR) 18%
Between January and September 2025, the average revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased by 18% compared with the same period the previous year. This rise suggests both higher prices and stronger occupancy rates across Madeira’s hospitality sector.
Visitors Praise Island Scenery and Mild Weather
Most tourists interviewed described their stays as relaxing and memorable. A visitor from Germany told RTP, “It was perfect weather — the best holidays of my life.” Another traveler from Austria said the island’s views were “spectacular everywhere.”
