Tourists Discover the Quiet Appeal of Praia dos Anjos

Praia dos Anjos, once a little-known stretch of pebble stones, is gaining attention from tourists. Its calm atmosphere and natural beauty make it an appealing choice for those avoiding busier Madeira beaches.

A Quiet Beach Between Villages

Praia dos Anjos, a small seaside spot located between Ponta do Sol and Madalena do Mar, is becoming a preferred stop for visitors to Madeira. In the early afternoon, the beach remains relatively calm, but by evening, it welcomes more people seeking a swim or a quiet rest. Some travelers discover the area by chance, while others arrive after searching for places on the island that are less crowded.

Tourists Look for Calm and Space

Many visitors say they are drawn to the beach precisely because of its quiet atmosphere. One family interviewed by RTP Madeira explained that they had traveled earlier to the Azores but decided this year to spend their holiday in Madeira. For these tourists, Praia dos Anjos offers both relaxation and an alternative to more crowded beaches.

We went to Azores a few years ago, but we haven't seen Madeira before, so we would like to spend our holidays on that island.

Zion Project: A Meeting Point at the Shore, Serving More Tourists Today

The Zion Project, created in 2014, has become part of the beach’s identity. It serves light meals and offers services to swimmers. The Portuguese actor Luís Simões, who has been involved in the project for several summers, spends part of his season working at the beach bar.

And so, another year joined in, and here we are again — this year only two months, but that’s how it is. Here I find a tranquility that is sometimes difficult to achieve elsewhere, and well, Madeira is a very magical place for me. I really enjoy coming here and never miss a chance to enjoy this little paradise.

I have been following Zion for some years, and I have also noticed that there has been a growth in foreign clients. In other words, Zion started much more with local customers, but today we can already say it is about 50-50.

A Seasonal Destination Until September

The bathing season at Praia dos Anjos officially continues until September 15. Until then, both locals and tourists can enjoy the natural setting, sun, and calm waters that define this small stretch of Madeira’s coastline. For many visitors, its appeal lies in offering something increasingly rare on the island: a peaceful seaside experience.
