Two Sisters Died in a Road Accident Last Week

Two elderly sisters died after their car crashed in Calheta. The accident was one of 62 road incidents reported in Madeira this past week.

Sisters Killed in Calheta Crash

Two elderly sisters, aged 75 and 77, died in a car accident last Friday in Lombo do Salão, Calheta. Their vehicle went off the road, marking two fatalities in Madeira’s weekly traffic report from July 11 to 17, 2025. In total, 62 accidents were recorded, causing 21 minor injuries. Most incidents were:

  • collisions (44)

  • run-offs (13)

  • pedestrian accidents (4).

Funchal Sees Most Incidents

Funchal had the highest number of cases: 27 accidents and 12 injuries, but no deaths. Other affected areas include Santa Cruz (10), São Vicente (5), and several others with fewer reports. The PSP made seven arrests, mostly for drunk driving. Officials say the figures are provisional, as some accidents may be reported later.
