Infrared Footage Captures Navy Tracking Vessel at Night Over Madeira
For the first time, the French Navy has released video showing its operation off the coast of Madeira. The footage, taken from a helicopter equipped with infrared cameras, shows the Navy tracking a fast-moving boat carrying nearly 2.4 tons of cocaine off the coast of Madeira. The vessel sped along a busy maritime route at 80 km/h, ignoring repeated warnings.

Navy Fires on Engines to Stop Boat Without Injuring Crew
The video captures the critical moment when the Navy fired on the boat’s engines to bring it to a halt. “This is a standard procedure,” said a Navy spokesperson. The crew remained unharmed, and the boat did not sink. The operation allowed authorities to immediately detain all members onboard.
French Navy Has Intercepted 60 Tons of Drugs in Oceans Since 2025
This is not the first long-distance operation by the French Navy. Earlier in the Gulf of Guinea, a fishing vessel was seized carrying 10 tons of cocaine. Overall, since the start of 2025, the French Navy has intercepted a total of 60 tons of drugs across international waters.
