A Heartbreaking Rescue
Yesterday, the animal welfare association Ajuda a Alimentar Cães shared the story of a dog left to die in São Vicente. The dog, about 15 years old, was found in very poor condition behind a small supermarket. It seemed clear that the dog had once belonged to someone but was cruelly abandoned and left to struggle alone.
The Dog’s Condition and Treatment
The rescued dog, named João, was covered in painful wounds caused by larvae infection. According to the charity, João’s body had many holes and he was in great pain. After being found, he was immediately taken to receive urgent medical care. The charity described the long and difficult trip to the clinic, where the dog stayed very quiet, showing how weak he was.
Once at the clinic, João was shaved to allow treatment, all larvae were carefully removed, wounds cleaned, and he was given medicine and fluids through an IV. The charity promised to stay by João’s side during his recovery, though they warned that the medical costs would be high.
He was urgently transported in our van, and throughout the entire journey, there was absolute silence.
This is yet another extremely serious case. João was infested with larvae, with holes all over his body. The pain he feels is indescribable. Someone left him in this condition for a long time, and that is cruel.
The Call for Justice and Support
Ajuda a Alimentar Cães asked the public to help by donating money for João’s treatment. They also urged anyone who might recognize João or know who abandoned him to come forward. Abandoning an animal is a crime, and the charity vowed to find the person responsible for this cruelty.
Mariana Nóbrega, leader of the charity, spoke strongly about the case. She said she will keep fighting for animals and will not be silenced by threats or criticism. She called on pet owners to treat their animals with respect and care, warning that those who do not will face the truth being revealed.
