Alex Sampaio and his wife have opened a new gym in Ponta do Sol. The project is worth about 500,000 euros.
The project came after their old space became too small for the demand. Their goal is to get more people to exercise.
Solar Power and a View
Sampaio says the new building was planned to be "self-sustaining". Solar panels should bring its energy use to zero during the summer.
The front of the building is made of glass. It lets in natural light and gives a view of the scenery.
Clients of All Ages
The team has eight exercise professionals and one nutritionist. The number of people who signed up at the start surprised the owners.

The old gym already had clients up to 85 years old. The new one wants to serve people of all ages and fitness levels.
The team also teaches classes in several places across the municipality. This is part of a town council programme that also targets older residents. Sampaio says these classes are in very high demand.
