Porto do Funchal Named World's Best Cruise Terminal for Sustainability

Porto do Funchal shows sustainability excellence by winning World Cruise Award for 2026.

The Porto do Funchal has been elected Best Cruise Terminal in the World for Sustainability 2026 by the World Cruise Awards. The award recognizes the Madeira Port Administration's work in sustainability, digitalization, and energy transition.

This shows the second time Madeira has received this accolade, having previously won in 2024. The award was presented at the annual World Cruise Awards ceremony held in Jamaica.

Congratulate all the workers of the Madeira port community for the distinction of Porto do Funchal as Best Cruise Terminal in the World in terms of Sustainability 2026. This international recognition is a source of pride for the Region and, above all, a tribute to the professionalism, dedication and commitment of all those who contribute daily to the quality of our ports and to the excellence of welcoming those who visit us.

José Manuel Rodrigues, Regional Secretary of Economy

The World Cruise Awards, established in 2021, recognize excellence and innovation in the global cruise industry. In the sustainability category, Madeira competed against ports including Steinwerder (Germany), Flåm (Norway), Kai Tak (Hong Kong), Montreal (Canada), and Copenhaga (Denmark).

The winning sustainability initiatives include the Green Ports Madeira program, the Shift2DC digitalization project, and investments in energy-efficient port infrastructure.

APRAM has also promoted social and environmental initiatives that connect the cruise sector with the local community. These include tree planting in Funchal's Ecological Park and educational visits for students aboard cruise ships.
