Seven Mega-Yachts Visit Funchal Over the Weekend

Luxury meets logistics in Funchal this weekend, as seven superyachts make stopovers on their transatlantic journeys.

Four Yachts Arrive on Friday

The Port of Funchal saw a wave of luxury yacht traffic this weekend, starting Friday with the arrival of four vessels.

The Hemisphere was first, docking at 8:45 from Antigua with British captain Gavin Bladen and seven crew. It stays until Sunday, then sails to Gibraltar.

The Naema followed at 10:00 from Cádiz, under German captain Florian Franke. With ten crew, it will depart for Hamilton on Monday morning.

Later that day, the Berilda arrived from Saint George at 12:45. Captained by American Joe Gallegos and staffed by ten crew, it leaves Monday for Amsterdam.

The Boardwalk, led by American Hammond Oldham, docked at 13:00 from Fort Lauderdale and departed later that same day for Gibraltar.

Saturday: Brief Stop for Avanti

The Avanti arrived Saturday at 17:00 from San Juan, staying just two hours before continuing its journey. The American-led crew of 14 was under the command of Stephen Burhe. The yacht is managed by Transinsular.

Sunday: Two More Depart for Gibraltar

Two final yachts arrived Sunday morning. The Silver Shalis reached port at 8:00 from Tortola with 12 crew and American captain Michael Sentok. It leaves Tuesday morning. The Pamela V, arriving at 9:00 from Nassau with Croatian captain Ante Lovrovic and seven crew, departs Monday at 11:30. Both are managed by Funchal MarĂ­tima and head next to Gibraltar.
