Workers' Strike May Affect Regular Bus Services
Horários do Funchal has announced possible disruptions to regular services on this Sunday, July 20. The warning comes after the National Union of Drivers and Other Workers declared a strike for that day.
In a public statement, the company apologized in advance:
Horários do Funchal regrets any inconvenience caused by this disruption and will do everything possible to reduce its impact, asking for customers’ understanding and offering sincere apologies.
The extent of the disruption remains unclear, and the company has advised passengers to check its social media channels for real-time updates regarding affected routes.
Key Event Coincides With Planned Strike
The strike is scheduled on the same day as the Chão da Lagoa Festival, the largest annual gathering in Madeira. Organized by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the event traditionally attracts thousands to the mountains above Funchal.
Despite the planned industrial action, the PSD has assured the public that transport to the festival is secured. A total of 120 buses are confirmed to take people to the site. This decision aims to prevent disruptions to the event, which plays an important cultural and political role in the region.
