Woman Lost Control of Her Vehicle in Nazaré

A 25-year-old woman has died after a serious car crash in the Nazaré area of Funchal. The accident happened yesterday, Monday, January 12, 2026, when the driver lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree near the Regimento de Guarnição n.º 3 (RG3). Emergency services resuscitated the woman at the scene and transported the victim to the local hospital in critical condition, but she passed away today.

The accident occurred yesterday at about 21h04 in the residential district of Nazaré. According to local reports, the young woman from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos was the only person inside the car when the crash took place. The impact was described as extremely violent, causing significant damage to the vehicle and leaving the driver in cardiac arrest.

According to reports gathered by JM, the car was out of control and crashed into the tree, causing a major incident at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene called for emergency help immediately after the vehicle veered off the road. The causes of the crash are currently under investigation by local authorities, who are looking into factors that might have led the driver to lose control.

Medical Teams at Nélio Mendonça Hospital Confirm Death Following Intensive Care Treatment

Following the crash, the victim was rushed to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the severity of her injuries. Despite the efforts of the medical staff throughout the night and into Tuesday morning, her condition did not improve.

Today afternoon, January 13, the hospital confirmed that the young woman had died from her injuries. It is already the second road related death in Madeira in 2026.
