Emergency Team Tried to Save Young Doctor After Cardiac Arrest
A man in his 30s died on Sunday evening after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Rua Dr. Pita in São Martinho, Funchal. The victim, identified by local sources as a young doctor, suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene. A rapid response medical team was able to revive him before he was taken to the Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
Victim Died in the Operating Room Despite Medical Efforts
After arriving at the hospital in serious condition, the man was taken straight into emergency surgery. Sources later confirmed that he died in the operating room, as the injuries were too severe. Although no official statement was released by the hospital’s administration, a medical source said that doctors did everything possible to save him.
Investigation Ongoing into Cause of Fatal Accident
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed. Authorities continue to investigate how the collision happened on the busy street, located near the Nazaré tunnel. The incident has raised concerns among locals about traffic safety in the area, especially for cyclists.
