The planes had come from Marseille, Brussels and Lisbon, according to FlightRadar.
Storm Bruna Forecast to Bring Gusts of up to 130 km/h
The disruption may be linked to Storm Bruna moving closer to the archipelago. The storm is expected to bring periods of rain, at times heavy, strong wind and conditions that can affect airport operations.
The Portuguese weather service, IPMA, forecasts persistent and sometimes heavy rain between Saturday and Sunday. Wind may reach 100 km/h in low-lying areas and 130 km/h in the highlands.
Waves of 3.5 to 4.5 metres are possible on Madeira's south coast. The regional authorities have also closed all classified hiking trails on Sunday, 8 November.
ANA has posted a warning on its website:
"Weather forecasts point to adverse conditions that may affect operations (departures and arrivals) in the coming days. Contact your airline to confirm the status of your flight before going to the airport."
