Fewer Spectators and Less Revenue Than in 2019
In 2023, Madeira saw a notable rise in cinema sessions, reaching 14,100 and thus marking an 8.8% increase from the previous year. However, despite this growth, the overall results still fell below the levels observed in 2019 concerning revenue, sessions, and spectators.

July And August Are The Most Busy Months For Cinemas in Madeira
August emerged as the month with the highest number of cinema sessions, while July claimed the top spot for the highest number of spectators. The data for 2023 revealed a substantial rise in the number of spectators, surging by 37.1% compared to the figures recorded in 2022. Additionally, box office revenue went up by 42.3%.
Fewer Spectators Results in Lower Box Office Revenues
Zooming into the specifics of the 4th quarter of 2023, the region hosted 3,299 movie sessions, showcasing an 8.4% increase from the same period in 2022. Despite the rise in sessions, there was a dip in the number of spectators, witnessing a 6.7% decrease. This trend also affected box office revenue, which saw an 8.0% decline during the same quarter.
