Accident Near Câmara de Lobos Tunnel
A woman lost her life on Monday afternoon after her BMW convertible went off the road at kilometer 8.4 of the Ribeira Brava–Machico expressway, in Câmara de Lobos, just before the Ribeira de Alforra tunnel. The accident happened around 15:00.

Victim Trapped Inside the Vehicle, Suffers Fatal Head Injury
Firefighters confirmed that the driver was trapped inside the car after the crash. She suffered a fatal head injury. Despite the fast response of the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters - who arrived with four vehicles and 12 firefighters - and the emergency medical team EMIR, she could not be saved. “Unfortunately, death was declared at the scene,” a firefighter source said.
Emergency Response and Police Involvement
The rescue teams worked for several minutes to free the victim from the wreckage. Emergency medical staff attempted to provide assistance, but the injuries were too severe. The Public Security Police (PSP) were also present and took charge of the investigation into the accident.
