Forest roads in Madeira are hazardous due to the large amount of foliage on the roadway, particularly on the stretches between Santa Cruz and Santo da Serra, and between Santo da Serra and Poiso.

Branches, leaves, and stones carried by strong winds and persistent rain make driving difficult, especially for vehicles traveling downhill. Extra caution is required when driving on these tree-lined sections.
